The Governor of the Northern Province has taken steps to remove the Mayor of Vavuniya and the Deputy Chairman of the Chavakachcheri Urban Council from their respective positions with immediate effect.
According to reports, the decision was made following a special investigation conducted by Northern Province Governor Nagalingam Vethanayahan. A special Gazette notification relating to the decision has also been issued.
As a result of the Governor's order, Sundaralingam Kandiban has lost not only his position as Mayor of Vavuniya but also his seat as a council member.
Similarly, Gnanapragasam Kishore has been removed from his position as Deputy Chairman of the Chavakachcheri Urban Council and has also lost his council membership with immediate effect, according to the Gazette notification.
