Colombo, Nov 07 (Daily Mirror) - A United States Navy MV-22B Osprey aircraft arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake this afternoon (07), having flown from a US Navy vessel stationed in the Indian Ocean.

The aircraft, manufactured by Boeing, is capable of operating both as a helicopter and a fixed-wing aircraft, combining vertical take-off and landing capabilities with the speed and range of a conventional aeroplane.

Its rotors can tilt upwards to enable helicopter-style vertical take-off and landing and forward to allow it to operate as a conventional aircraft. This enables the Osprey to operate without requiring a traditional runway.

The aircraft had departed from a US Navy vessel anchored approximately 50 nautical miles south of Sri Lanka and is scheduled to return to the vessel later this afternoon.
