Sri Lankan model and actress Chula Padmendra Kumarapathirana has passed away. She was 46.
Padmendra’s death came soon after a beauty pageant. The official cause of her death is yet to be known, but the primary investigation suggests that she died of a heart attack.
The police are currently investigating her death.
According to Gossip Lanka News, the preliminary police investigations indicate that she arrived at a businessman's home on Gangaramaya Road, Wewala, Piliyandala, early in the morning following an event hosted at a hotel in the Battaramulla region.
She was later discovered face down on a bed at the house, and the businessman tried to wake her up. He allegedly then checked on her when she didn't answer and saw blood on the pillow.
He then called the emergency service, who declared her dead.
Padmendra reportedly participated in the ‘Universal Woman Sri Lanka 2026’ pageant grand finale at Waters Edge, Colombo, the night before her death. She was the pageant's Chief Training Consultant and National Director.
She served as a personal trainer for Caroline Jurie, a former Mrs World, and introduced other newbies to the profession through "Chulpadmendra Catwalk Studio."
Chula Padmendra established herself internationally, winning the Media Award at the 2006 ‘Miss Tourism Model of the World’ pageant in Tanzania.
She pursued acting in addition to modelling and consulting, lending her skills to popular tele-dramas and films as Sweet Angel (2011), Gindari 2 (Asani Wasi), and Swara (2023).
She temporarily left the industry after getting married to focus on her family and child, but she eventually returned. She was a person who steadfastly defended her beliefs and opposed injustice.
A lawsuit was filed against Pushpika de Silva and Caroline Jurie in relation to the incident in which her crown was taken off during the 2021 Mrs Sri Lanka for Mrs World pageant at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre.
The Chief Magistrate of Colombo was supposed to announce the decision in this case on October 17.
