A former Sri Lankan naval chief on Friday called for regional solidarity to safeguard peace and stability in the South China Sea, warning that outside military involvement in regional affairs risks spiraling into further escalation.
"Outside military involvement in a domestic or regional matter is likely to lead to further chaos, and all will suffer," said Jayanath Colombage, former Chief of the Sri Lanka Navy and former Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Indonesia, on the sidelines of the 7th Symposium on Global Maritime Cooperation and Ocean Governance in Sanya, Hainan province.
