Adheesha Dissanayake, Sihala Wijesundera and Krishiv Prasath became the Under-20, Under-15 and Under-12 champions at the Junior National Scrabble Championship 2026, organised by the Scrabble Federation of Sri Lanka (SFSL) that concluded last week at Gateway College, Colombo, bringing together the country’s finest young players after months of competition across the island.

Held for the fourth consecutive year, the championship has established itself as Sri Lanka’s premier national scrabble tournament for youth players. It continues to provide a platform for young players to demonstrate their command of the English language while developing strategic thinking, analytical skills and sportsmanship through healthy competition.

This year’s championship attracted over 600 participants in the Under 12, Under 15 and Under 20 age categories according to the organisers.

The road to the finals began with regional qualifying tournaments conducted across the Western, Central, North Western and Southern provinces. Following a series of highly competitive matches, 130 finalists earned the opportunity to compete at the finals, representing the very best young scrabble talent from across Sri Lanka.

The event was graced by Colombo Mayor Vraie Cally Balthazaar as the Chief Guest, together with representatives of the Colombo Municipal Council, officials of the Scrabble Federation of Sri Lanka, school principals, teachers, parents and supporters who gathered to celebrate the achievements of the country’s young players.

Organisers said they noted that the championship continues to grow in both scale and standard each year, reflecting the increasing popularity of competitive scrabble among Sri Lankan schools.

The event provided students with an opportunity to challenge themselves intellectually while building friendships with fellow competitors from different parts of the country marking another significant milestone in the efforts of the Scrabble Federation of Sri Lanka to promote excellence through competitive Scrabble.
