The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has written to Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, requesting his intervention to secure two parliamentary debates on concerns relating to Buddhist monks and the sudden transfers of judges.

In a letter addressed to Premadasa, SLPP General Secretary Attorney Sagara Kariyawasam called for parliamentary discussions on the two matters, describing them as issues of national importance.

The letter raises concerns over alleged incidents targeting Buddhist monks, as well as the conduct of certain law enforcement institutions and social media campaigns directed at members of the Buddhist clergy.

It also questions the sudden transfers of judges who had delivered rulings or issued orders considered unfavourable to the current Government, stating that these developments had raised concerns and questions among the public.

Kariyawasam said transparent explanations were necessary to safeguard judicial independence and public confidence in the judiciary.

He further cautioned that the upcoming Budget debate could divert attention from these matters and urged Premadasa to take the necessary steps to secure the two parliamentary debates without delay. (Newswire)
