Experienced filmmaker, writer and veteran journalist Rodney Widanapathirana’s latest movie ‘Hemanthe Sihinayak’ (An Autumn Dream,) ready to be screened in the USA soon.
The fourth direction by Rodney, ‘Hemanthe Sihinayak’ is shot in and around London and other locations in Sri Lanka. Set in London, the film revolves around a love story.
The story revolves around the character ‘Nimmi’, who is a renowned actress in Sri Lanka and a spinster. An upcoming actor Suresh falls in love with her but she doesn’t reciprocate. She is under the impression that the young actor is trying to misuse her popularity.
It is during this time the country is close down with Covid pandemic.
All the industries including cinema comes to a standstill. The young actor Suresh decides to leave Sri Lanka and he migrates to Britain with the support of her sister ‘Achala’ (played by Kanchana Mendis).
But in London he faces another problem. It’s again love. Will Suresh be able to win the heart of Nimmi? Will he be able to establish himself as an actor?
‘We started shooting in London at the end of September Autumn season. We experienced cold wind and occasional showers. It was a hard work as someday nights we were filming until dawn of the next day on the wet London roads’ Rodney told TV Times.
Few years ago I worked with popular actress Kanchana Mendis in ‘Hemanthe Wasanthayak’. Now she is living in London and she is playing the character of ‘Achala’, (the sister of Suresh) with another London based actor Wimal Alahakoon. Last time Wimal acted as the father of Kanchana. This time he is playing a dark character as a villain. Another well-known actress Nayana Kumari portraying the role as a popular actress in Sri Lanka.
The film introduces several London-based stars Sherin de Silva and Chethan de Silva who is the second son of late singer Saman de Silva. Ronald Williams musician based in London also plays a role in the film.
‘Hemanthe Sihinayak’ also features yester-year star Gamini Abesinghe who was famed for his role as the villain in 1970s hit movie ‘Sangeetha’. Others playing in the film are Ramesh Ekanayaka, Bhoominda Karunathilaka, Ruvini Ranathunga, Nadeesha Malewana, Chandika Kuruppu, Kumuduni Adhikari, Stanley Krishnarathna and Ranjith Ranasinghe.
Cinematographed by Sisira Maddumage (London) and Chaminda Disanayaka (Sri Lanka), make up is handled by Dulanjali Alahapperuma and editor is Chamika Lakmal. Renowned singer and musician Nimal Gunasekara handled music and introduces Nimal Gunawardhana as a new play back singer to cinema. Screenplay of the film is written by Malan Vidanapathirana and Priyasha Ranwala.
Started with ‘Udawediya Mal’, Rodney has directed a number of teledramas including ‘Sapa Nokaraw Dharuwane’, ‘Wanapasa Mal’, ‘Hathe Wasama’, ‘Hemanthaye Wasanthayak’, ‘Ridi Tharaka’ and ‘Hima Piyali’.
