Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI)-based projects funded by the Government of India are currently being implemented in Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Kenya and Guyana, with similar initiatives under finalisation with Mauritius and Seychelles, the Ministry of External Affairs informed the Rajya Sabha on August 6.

In a written reply, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh said India has signed a framework inter-governmental Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on DPI cooperation with 24 countries to facilitate the exchange of digital solutions, best practices and experiences in implementing digital transformation initiatives at population scale.

The MoU, titled Cooperation in the Field of Sharing Successful Digital Solutions Implemented at Population Scale for Digital Transformation, aims to support partner countries through capacity building of public officials, knowledge exchange, development of pilot solutions and facilitating private sector cooperation.

The Ministry said delegations from several partner countries, including Sri Lanka, Kenya, Rwanda, Nepal, Indonesia and South Africa, have visited India for technical interactions and study visits with key DPI institutions, including the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), National e-Governance Division (NeGD) and National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).

The government said India’s international DPI cooperation model is demand-driven and shaped according to the requirements and priorities of partner countries.

Finalisation and implementation of individual digital solutions are coordinated through technical discussions involving designated authorities of partner nations and relevant Indian ministries and agencies.

The reply comes as India continues to promote Digital Public Infrastructure as a tool for inclusive digital development and deeper cooperation with countries of the Global South.
