Colombo, Oct. 27 (Daily Mirror) - The impact of the Very Severe Cyclonic Storm “Arnab” on weather conditions across Sri Lanka is expected to gradually decrease from tomorrow, the Department of Meteorology said.
The storm, currently over the west-central Bay of Bengal, was centred near latitude 16.2°N and longitude 83.7°E at 11.30 a.m. today (October 27), about 800 kilometres north-east of Kankesanthurai.
It is expected to cross the Indian coast through Andhra Pradesh as a very severe cyclonic storm around 11.30 a.m. tomorrow.
Meanwhile, several spells of showers are expected in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva Province and in the Batticaloa and Ampara districts after 1.00 p.m.
Strong winds of 40–50 kmph are expected at times over the western slopes of the Central Hills, the Northern, North Central and North Western provinces, and in the Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.
The public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimise possible damage from temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
