Colombo, Nov. 4 (Daily Mirror) - Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya held bilateral discussions with the leaders and representatives of Rwanda, Jamaica, Uganda and the Maldives on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Antigua and Barbuda on November 3.

During her meeting with Rwandan President Paul Kagame, discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations, particularly in economic cooperation, trade and investment.

Both sides highlighted the need to explore new opportunities to expand economic ties between the two countries.

The Prime Minister also met Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness, with discussions focusing on strengthening people-to-people relations and expanding cooperation between Sri Lanka and Jamaica.

Dr. Amarasuriya invited Jamaica to participate in the 'Expo Sri Lanka' exhibition scheduled for January 2027. She also invited the country to attend the next Commonwealth Women’s Affairs Ministers Meeting, which Sri Lanka is expected to host in the first quarter of 2028.

During her visit, the Prime Minister held discussions with Uganda's Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Norbert Mao, on expanding cooperation in technical and vocational education, trade, investment and agriculture.

The two sides explored opportunities to exchange expertise and identify joint programmes and projects in these areas.

Dr. Amarasuriya also met Maldivian Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef to discuss strengthening relations between the two countries.

The meetings provided an opportunity to strengthen Sri Lanka's ties with Commonwealth member countries and explore cooperation in economic, educational, agricultural and social sectors.
