India A lost to Sri Lanka A by 7 runs in the Super Over after two five-run penalties and a disputed last-ball run in Dambulla.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi engaged in a verbal spat with a Sri Lanka A fielder after the Super Over defeat.

R Ashwin called the match "great theatre," defending India A's frustration while crediting Sri Lanka's deliberate delay as legitimate mind games.

A dramatic India A vs Sri Lanka A Tri-Nation Series clash in Dambulla on Monday descended into controversy, with two five-run penalties, a disputed last-ball run, and a contested no-ball call in the Super Over combining to produce a seven-run Sri Lanka A victory.

Former India off-spinner R Ashwin offered a nuanced perspective from outside the fray, validating India A's frustration while crediting Sri Lanka's deliberate delay before the Super Over as legitimate competitive gamesmanship. Both teams played their part in one of the most chaotic A-team matches in recent memory.

"These games won't have as many cameras as we are used to seeing in the IPL. The no-ball call in the super over was debatable, and the way Sri Lanka delayed coming into bat in the super over really irked the India A side.

"The frustration shown by the Indian team was understandable, while what Sri Lanka did was play proper mind games. Great theatre."

The five-run penalties were the first major flashpoint. On-field umpires twice penalised India A's bowlers for running on the pitch's dangerous areas during the first innings, a significant call in a match that eventually came down to Sri Lanka needing two runs off the final ball.

Gunasekara squeezed a run off that delivery to level the match, but Indian fielders immediately protested, arguing the batter had not attempted any stroke. The umpires ruled in Sri Lanka's favour after a brief discussion, sending the match to a Super Over.

Arshad Khan conceded 16 runs bowling for India A in the Super Over, leaving Sooryavanshi and Shreyash Hegde to chase 17. The pair could manage only nine off Kugathas Mathulan, with Sooryavanshi then engaging in a heated verbal exchange with a Sri Lanka A fielder after India A's defeat.

Ashwin's framing of the evening as "great theatre" offered a rare moment of perspective amid the heat. Sri Lanka's mind games were deliberate and effective, India A's reaction was entirely human, and the combination made for compelling viewing in Dambulla.
