England have called up teenager Thomas Rew as one of four uncapped players for the five-match Twenty20 series against Australia next month, with Hampshire's Eddie Jack drafted in to cover the absence of senior bowlers.

Rew, 18, comes into a 16-strong squad that is missing the injured Jos Buttler and will be without the multi-format bowlers for the second half of the four-week tour.

The Somerset batsman, younger brother of recent Test debutant James Rew, missed the latter stages of the 2026 season through injury.

He captained England to the final of the Under-19 World Cup earlier this year.

England head coach Brendon McCullum said last month that the Test bowlers heading for South Africa for a three-Test series in December would have limited involvement in the limited-overs trip down under and that the one-day series would take priority a year away from the World Cup.

To that end, Jofra Archer , Gus Atkinson, Sonny Baker and Josh Tongue will feature in the three one-day internationals and then take a period off ahead of the South Africa tour.

Jack, 21, has limited T20 experience, taking eight wickets in seven matches since making his debut in 2024, and has an economy rate touching 11, but has been selected for the raw pace that he offers.

This trip will also give him a first taste of an international tour, alongside Henry Crocombe, a recipient of a first central contract on Monday, who is named in both squads.

The one-day squad shows just two changes from the impending triangular series versus Pakistan and Sri Lanka this month with Jacob Bethell fit again after a knee injury and Archer back from a rest.

Their return, national selector Marcus North says, 'means that we will be at close to full strength as we ramp up preparations for a World Cup in a year's time.

'The four quick bowlers will then leave after the three-game ODI series as we look to manage them ahead of the Test tour of South Africa.

'Our T20 team has been in excellent form under captain Harry Brook and we are looking forward to the opportunity to test ourselves in Australian conditions against a very good team.

'We will have four uncapped players in an exciting IT20 squad including Thomas Rew and Eddie Jack, both of whom toured Australia with the England Lions last year, and who earn their first England call-ups.'

For an England T20 team that returned to No 1 in the world rankings this week following India's defeat to West Indies, Phil Salt comes back from a quad issue while Aneurin Donald - Salt's replacement last month versus the Sri Lankans - also retains his place.

Saqib Mahmood, another one of England's 30 full central contractees, is sidelined with knee trouble.
