After losing their opening match against Afghanistan , Bangladesh Under-19 finally got their first win in the U19 Asia Cup. The two-time champions bounced back in style as they beat Sri Lanka by 45 runs in a one-sided contest.
Batting first at Al Amerat in Oman, Bangladesh failed to last the full 50 overs. They were bowled out for 245 with just two balls remaining in their innings.
Ahsan Al Mumin was the top scorer for Bangladesh with 82 runs off 98 balls. SK Zarif Siyam also made a valuable contribution. He scored 59 off 83 deliveries. Abdullah Al Muhi added 30 runs.
For Sri Lanka, Sethmika Seneviratne picked up four wickets, while Gimhan Mendis claimed three and Kaushika Kumarasinghe took two.
Sri Lanka's chase did not get off to the best start as they lost their first wicket with just 16 runs on the board. However, Senuja Wekunagoda kept their hopes alive with a fighting knock.
He scored 85 off 95 balls, but received little support from the other end. No other Sri Lankan batter managed to reach 20, and the innings eventually came to an end at 200 in 46.1 overs.
Bangladesh's bowlers shared the wickets. Tafiul Alam Tamim, Sheikh Atiqur Rahman, Rubay Islam Rizon and Robiul Hasan Anik claimed two wickets each.
