The Department of Meteorology has issued an ‘Amber’ advisory for strong winds for several areas around the island.
The advisory, issued at 6.00pm today (June 12), will remain in effect until 06.00 pm tomorrow (June 13).
According to the Met. Department, strong winds of about 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Northern and North-central provinces and in Trincomalee and Hambantota districts, due to the active south-west monsoonal condition.
Meanwhile, fairly strong winds of about 30-40 kmph can be expected at times elsewhere of the island.
Accordingly, the general public has been requested to be attentive about future advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard.
